Over the past year, we have helped thousands of people collaborate on code, and we have learned many surprising things along the way. Most informative was our discovery that people are using Stypi for far more than we anticipated — from meeting notes to school projects and research papers. We see this as an opportunity to serve our users even better, and today are excited to announce the release of our new rich text editor, available at beta.stypi.com.
Rich Text Editor
We’ve built a rich text editor from scratch, adding basic formatting and mobile support to the collaborative editing experience you already know and love. In the short term, we’ve had to remove a few features, such as playback, but will be adding these and many more editing features in upcoming releases. Please try it out and send us your feedback!
Beta.stypi.com is available today, but once it is taken out of beta, it will become the new stypi.com. The current stypi.com will become code.stypi.com. After the switch, all documents on beta.stypi.com will be available at stypi.com, and all documents on the current stypi.com will be available at code.stypi.com. All of your current documents have already been made available at beta.stypi.com, so that its easy to get started. We expect the new rich text editor will stay in beta for at least two weeks while we iron out any issues, which will also give you time to plan for the transition.
We’re really excited about these upcoming changes to Stypi and hope you are too. If you have any thoughts or concerns, we’d love to hear them!
Now you can easily track who wrote what in your document.
See everyone’s changes identified by colored background. Just click on the tag icon on the blue bar.
Writing HTML, Markdown, and Textile just got easier. With realtime rendering, review the rendered document as you type. Hover over the eye icon on the blue bar to preview. Click it to toggle a two pane edit mode.
We started building Stypi with the vision to make it as easy as possible to collaborate with others online–whether it be for editing source code, tweaking website copy, or writing a novel. As Stypi has grown, we’ve seen each of these use cases and many more unexpected ones.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that we are joining salesforce.com. We’ve found that they share our vision for collaboration and all of its possibilities and together we’ll be able to create even more amazing collaboration solutions.
Most importantly, Stypi will continue to be the Stypi you know. Our users will continue to have access to this great service, community, and innovation.
We’re super excited about this new leg in our journey, and can’t wait to share these steps with you.
Jason and Byron
We’ve finally added a company blog for Stypi. We’ll be posting what we are up to with the product and company now and then, so feel free to check back.
In the meantime check out our feedback forum to vote on feature requests or make some of your own!
